Chennai, February 10, 2016 – Grundfos Foundation has completed its Phase
II of ‘100 pumps 100 villages’ project bringing clean water to remote locations
in India. During Phase II, 32 solar pumps were installed in villages across Orissa
and Maharashtra.

In December 2014, Grundfos Foundation, Grundfos India and Sunlit Future commenced this noble initiative and installed self-sustaining
solar pumping solutions for bringing in clean water to villages across the
country. The first and second phase of the project has delivered water to
people across 60 villages in Orissa, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar
Pradesh. Phase III will install the remaining 40 pumps in the
course of 2016.

Bringing in solar pumping solutions for these villages made a huge socioeconomic impact, changing lives of the villagers, especially women and young girls. This initiative has helped the localities to cut down their time spent on collecting clean water; resulting in giving them time to involve in other productive
activities like education and other livelihood opportunities. It gives women
time for their family and themselves. The consumption and usage of clean water through more hygienic surroundings is expected to reduce water/sanitation related
diseases and increase nutritional levels in people.

The project promoted a healthy and better standard of living among the rural
population. Besides providing clean water, the villagers were educated on the
hygienic benefits of using toilets and how to dispose human waste in a correct
manner.

Speaking on this milestone, Christian Hartvig, Executive Director of
the Grundfos Foundation
said, “Providing sustainable access clean water
for the world’s most vulnerable people is central to us. With the completion of
Phase II of this project, we have reaped positive measurable outcomes, bringing
social transformation to almost 30,000 people across these 60 remote villages.”

To ensure continuous water supply across rural areas, the SQ Flex energy efficient solar pumps were installed. These pumps are specially designed for remote areas with poor or no access to the electricity grid. Each location underwent water quality and pre-installation tests. Regular water quality tests are done twice a year.
