“Ambient conditions” is a set of parameters used by designers for dimensioning ventilation and cooling systems. Ambient conditions typically include temperature, humidity and air pressure. Ambient conditions are also considered when systems are commissioned and tested. When the system is tested under given ambient conditions, it is both to ensure that the system can achieve e.g. the cooling capacity that it is designed for, and to ensure that the construction is safe.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, also known as ASHRAE, is an organisation that works with HVAC technologies and best practices. They publish a comprehensive handbook which provides guidance within these areas.
